People of the British Isles Latest

In June this year, I recall reading that the People of the British Isles DNA Mapping/Project results were in the process of being written up. I haven't seen or heard of any such info being released. Any news available?
    Cheers,
    Bob

Good question. It's certainly dragging on, and on, and ...

The project commenced in 2004 and published its "pilot" results back in August 2011. I have been told that in Feb 2014 the paper had been submitted to Nature. One has to wonder what could be holding up publication.

I also heard back in August that Dr Bruce Winney was leaving the project to do some traveling, although his name is still on the project page:

I'll email the other contact, Tammy Day, and ask what's happening.

    Thanks GTC
I did e-mail them earlier, so if I hear anything I'll post the answers here.
Let's hope we hear something soon
    Cheers,

Okay, I've had a reply from Dr. Daniel Crouch, Postdoctoral Researcher, confirming that Dr Bruce Winney has left the project and that:

"the Nature paper has been submitted. That is currently still under review but we hope it should be accepted very soon. We are currently focussing on the analysis of 3D photographs, attempting to find genes that are responsible for variation between individuals' appearance."

So, let's hope that the paper is published before Santa comes.

A couple of days ago on the RootsWeb "Genealogy -- DNA -- L" list, I noticed this timetable for an article in one of Nature's publications that was instructive, though not especially encouraging:

    Nature Genetics 46, 919–925 (2014) doi:10.1038/ng.3015
    Received 30 October 2013 Accepted 30 May 2014 Published online 22 June 2014

And the print version may just have appeared, in the mailboxes of those who have the $225 subscription. Anyway, it's not a speedy process; and the staff of the POBI project don't control this tempo.

Thanks for the update, GTC. Most useful.

As I understand it from a source, the main issue with the PoBI paper has been the detailed clustering that was demanded by its reviewers. I gather that reinforcements had to be recruited to the project to do that work.

I've just been told that the expected date for release is early next year.

I too am interested in the results of this work, they show in color "Blue" 2 connected distinct ethnic groups, On the Welsh English Borders one in the Cheshire areas and another in the Herefordshire area that are genetically connected.

These two groups look similar to name mapping I have done within my CTS4528/DF100 group from the older parts of this clade those dominant in the mentioned areas and Scotland before those younger found in Northern Europe and Germany and evolving into the younger clades (Belguim, Flemish) DYS392=14.

The results on ethnicity could be of great help in directing a possible reliable ethnicity for CTS4528/DF100 that at the moment can only be speculated at using historical migration patterns and event dating, the estimated age of this clade being around 1200BC around the time of the fall of Troy and the height of the Greek Empire, these events in themselves having a later influence on the populations of the Isles and in those areas mentioned.
