Also, would you like a PLINK file of Iranians and Tajiks (about 50-80 samples) when I get around to it?

EDIT: I just emailed you the google drive link of a Plink dataset that I put together for you from public databases consisting of about 160 Iranians, Tajiks, Kurds, and Turkmens
Thank you for the dataset! I will check it out soon. Appreciate you taking the time,

As requested, uploaded FTDNA (transfer from Geno2.0 NexGen) and ran 1-1 V0.2 comparisons w/ 300 snp and 3cM thresholds.

I just want to say thanks to all of you who are doing this hard work!

I'll have to go back and check the regular Gedmatch, but on Genesis I've found 18 matches between 7-5cM to the kits that have been uploaded. The best two are TAJIK RUSHAN 08 (7.36cM 260825 overlap) and PUNJABI LAHORE 08 (7.23cM and 223107 overlap)

I uploaded both of my parents kits and was surprised to see how many matches they each seem to have. I will list them by closest to furthest and how many total of each group.

    Dad Gedmatch Genesis kit GR8202977

    Punjabi Lahore(11), Tajik Shugnan(3), Brahui(4), Baloch(2), Kshatriya(2), Makrani(2), Kalash(3), Parsi Indian(1), Tajikistani(1), Pathan(1), and Hazara(1)

Closest match is Punjabi Lahore 33 kit NL9677645 at 7.5 gen and furthest is Baloch_HGDP0088 kit UU8122096 at 7.7. gen

    Mom Gedmatch Genesis kit ZG9613988

    Tajik Shugnan(1), Tajik Yagnobi(2), Punjabi Lahore(5), Brahui(5), Pathan(1), Parsi Indian(1), Baloch(1), Tajik Rushan(1), Hazara PK(2), and Tajik Ishkashim(1).

Closest match is Tajik Shugnan 09 kit FA6530544 at 7.4 gen and furthest is Hazara PK HGDP00129 kit TH1974596 at 7.7 gen

I may need to go back and see if I overlooked any matches for them. I am now in the process of looking over my kits. So far I have only run my 23andme kit. UG6286130

    Punjabi Lahore(3), Tajikistani(1), Tajik Yagnobi(1), Makrani(1), Tajik Shugnan(1), Hazara PK(1), Kalash(1), Tajik Rushan(1), Sindhi(2), and Pathan(2).

My closest match is Punjabi Lahore 09 Kit ZE4489645 and furthest is Pathan HGDP00239 at 7.7 gen

I still need to recheck all of the above and look up my Ancestry and LivingDNA matches.

Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to get these kits uploaded to Genesis.

Ahh good, chelle, so we don't need to send a search party out for you then?

    Hope you had enough coffee!

Since we are both seeing matches that probably aren't more than a single segment,I wonder if it would be at all useful to compare notes on what chromosome segments show the matches. I was having an interesting discussion over email with the Jatt fellow that I accidentally found several segments where he, a distant cousin of his and I appear to triangulate. He raised a good point that there still could be segments that are simply common between two populations. So, at his suggestion, I took some random European kits that I am not related to and checked for any segments overlaps. Sure enough, a segment that he and I share on Chromosome 15 was common for a good number of those kits. That did not affect the segments that have the mutual match with his distant cousin, but it does raise the question of whether some of these hits are due to more distant ties?

I got so many more matches for my parents than I would have ever expected, that I started wondering about the validity. ha What do you recommend for the best way for me to check each match... Leave it at the default settings or which minimum settings should I put...? Thanks.
Which chromosomes have you been seeing show up the most? As I told you on the other post 2 is a popular one with my dad, but a couple of other ones too.

Interesting that brother#1 & I have matches with some Tajik HGDP samples but mum & brother#2 have none.

Also interesting that mum has matches to 5 PATHAN samples while brothers 1 & 2, and I have none.

If you keep the default it does make it easy to check because you can just click the link for one-to-one match. But that default is larger than the limit the the one-to-many uses. I set it for 5cM and did each manually. Given how many you have, you'd better have a big pot of coffee ready! Funny thing is that I got some cases with more matching segments than the one-to-many caught. I guess it's the dynamic adjustment of SNP threshold that Genesis applies. Anyway, here it is in all it's glor.. um... ugliness?

    South-Central Asia matches.jpg

Can't really say that I see any pattern...
The Tajik samples do seem to have many more segments matching.

EDIT: Have had more time to digest these results, the Tajik hits area bit odd. On one hand, cool! a 8.4cM segment! But it only has 452 SNPs? In fact all the Tajik kits that I match have pretty low SNPs. I will guess they are from a different testing company than 23andMe. Now I know that most people like to look at segment length, but I have read enough blog posts on various sites that warn not to ignore the number of SNPs. I've even used that number to calculate the probability of the hit being a false match and generally the lower the number the better the chances.

In case anyone was curious I asked the folks running Gedmatch and they said the new algorithm for matching segments on Genesis makes the SNP count not as useful as it was before and to not worry about low counts.
