    Similarities between Pashto and Khotanese

I have been skimming through this “Dictionary of Khotan Saka” by Harold Walter Bailey and few other scholarly papers. It has been an enthralling experience…wanted to share my initial find

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

The Pashto dialect here is Kandahari.... an example would be

    Ear = Gwaz(K) also Ghwag(E)

    *K = Kandahari (Southern)
    *E= Eastern dialects

    Interesting stuff.

    4. The first attempt to classify the Iranian languages, applying recalibrated glottochronology, was realized by the team of Sergei Starostin (2004). Important is that Avestan and two Middle Iranian languages, Sogdian and Khotan Saka, were included.

Four things are the gift of Multan: Dusty winds, hot seasons, beggars and graveyards.

I'm not sure who added the Punjabi, but as a fluent Punjabi speaker, I suggest the following changes (I don't like changing something someone else has inputted without their knowledge):

Open should be Khula/Khuli (m/f) not kholeya. Kholya would translate to opened, so for example, mai ne booha kholya would be past tense = I opened the door. In the present tense, booha khula pya e, means the door is open.

Also suva should be suwa for red
and dod should be dudh for milk

I added darmal (Pashto) = darmaan (kurdi), pretty sure it is the same in Farsi, and added the Urdu and Punjabi
and xuram (Pashto) = xoum (kurdi)

Za daal xuram (Pashto) = I am eating daal = Az daal t xoum (Kurdi). Also added the Punjabi and Urdu
Hagha darmal xuree (Pashto) = He is eating medicine = Aw darmaan t xout (Kurdi). Khanda is Punjabi, Khenda is Saraiki.

Hey, never know this may turn into a language learning thread

I just looked at the spreadsheet again.

Ghwa is a female cow. In khotanese, the spreadsheet says Gghui, but I think Gghui refers to a male cow, because in Pashto a male cow is also referred to as a Gghui. I think Ghwa should be changed to Gghui.

Cow is always a female They have more than one way of saying it.... if you go through the dictionary.

Haha. I couldn't remember the word 'bull'.

Ghwayee is used for a bull in my father's pashto—*perhaps it is also used for Ox. 'Sha' pashto doesn't differentiate between bulls and cows?
