Some popular songs continue from one generation to the next. Case in point "anar anar" in Iran and Afghanistan.

    The instrumental rabab version

    and a classical vocal version

An older song, but a Persian classic:

Since this is a "Persian/Azeri" thread, here's Dariush (Azeri Iranian) dedicating a song in Persian to Iranian Azerbaijan:

Nice song by Dariush. Understood about 60% (Kurdi overlap). Seems to be proud of Azerbaijan. There was written reference to Nowroz (3/21).

So what? Who said that Azeri is Persian here?

This topic isn't problem for me as an Azerbaijani.

In the description of this forum area it states "Language-based discussion section for the Persian language", and clearly Azeri belongs in "Language-based discussion section the for Anatolian Turkish and Azeri languages".

Interpretation difference is the culprit behind the apparent disagreement here.

Linguistically, there's absolutely no doubting that Azeri Turkish (irrespective of dialect) is a completely different language from Persian. Mutual intelligibility personal estimates are around 3-5% between Persian and the Azeri dialects of the Republic, an extra 10% more with those spoken in Iran, and less than 3% with Anatolian Turkish. Conversely, Anatolian Turkish and the Azeri dialects would be around 70-80%. In that respect, the title's association of Persian with Azeri would be incorrect.

However, culture's a far more conceptual and debatable component. From personal experience, Iranian Azeri culture is almost identical to that practiced by Persians. My Azeri side is from traditionally conservative areas (e.g. not the parts of Iran commonly cited as being "Persianised" by various posters online, such as Zanjan or Qazvin). Numerous other Iranians I've met who aren't Azeri's have made similar comments in the real world. I have no firm grasp on the cultural nuances in the Republic of Azerbaijan and, as such, won't comment. Historically speaking, this cultural similarity is well substantiated, given the continual symbiosis of Persian and Azeri from the Seljuq's to the Qajar's. From a cultural perspective, personally speaking, the equivalence does make some degree of sense.

In that respect, this thread will probably be a "is the dress white or black?" situation for many of our regulars, given traditional music has a cultural basis but the inclusion of vocals adds a linguistic element. I suspect zahra (well-learned poster) made the thread with cultural considerations in mind.
