    Very interesting, thank you. Some of my fellow Finns, some being also active in this forum, are in the opinion that the analysis lack relevant reference groups, such as Saami and Volga Turks. That being the case, the locations of Uralic groups in these PCA's of Generalissimo are to some extent biased i.e. too close to each other, hence reflecting the positioning in the Bronze Age or thereabouts. G, would you care to elaborate?

    Saami and some of the Volga groups have too much East Asian, so I can't fit them into this PCA, and this is indeed what might be causing the Uralics to cluster so close to each other, but of course this is ideal for the purposes of this exercise.

    Huck, for info, "my" PCA with everybody ( the 2 first PCs. Globally, it is a little more "flat " than Generalissimo's one: #eigvals: 15.603 4.422 3.128 2.664 2.017 1.583 1.497 1.381 1.360 1.352 ):

    @Anglesqueville
    Thank you for the PCAs. They show a lot of detail.
    But I think you should prune the clustering, it seems heavily overfitted. What clustering algorithm did you use?

    Judging from PC3 of the relatives heat map, I would say that randwulf, randwulf_dad, Helgenes:mom, Dewsloth:dad, CelticGerman:Jean and CelticGerman:Nadine cluster with the French.

    EDIT: France is separated from the other West-European samples both on PC3 and PC2. But on PC3 the separation is wider.

    My results from David Wesolowski's Ancestry Detective Service:

    West British (Britonic?) 42.3%
    Continental Northern and Eastern European 36.6%
    Central French 21.1%

    Wouldn't say no to that, sure!

    You are the black dot.

    You basically cluster with the Dutch on this plot.

    @Radboud

    Strictly speaking, you should be plotting the PCs as in: Plot > XY graph

    Because it seems that you're running PCA on the PCA data. The results look basically the same, but it's not usually the done thing.

    It's really not usual to run a PCA on a PCA, it's even rather ... eccentric . Sorry if I am an old stubborn mathematician, but I would say that we should never plot PCA components with the PCA tool of Fast3.
