Thinking about it, me as a boy around 1972 by that molehill. I was a stone throw away from the church that the father of No.18 4 x great grandfather "Samuel Larke. b.1795 Cantley, Norfolk, England. Agricultural labourer." was a parish clerk at. In the footsteps of ancestors.

What I will also say, is that these ancestors could have had more children, that I have not found baptism records for. It was also very rare for all children to survive in the large families. Also, that in addition to looking after the household, and rearing so many children, they would have to contribute to income whenever they could, be it by laundering for others, tailoring, and seasonal casual work on the fields.

    Here's mine. 30 of 32 are known.
25 were farmers/agricultural laborers. 50% of my paternal line and 100% of my maternal line 4xgreat grandfathers were farmers in North and South Carolina.

Until I did this research for this thread, I didn't know I had three 4xgreat grandfathers that died in the US Civil War. Ironically they all were in the same infantry regiment, but died in 3 different battles (Antietam, Petersburg, and Bristoe Station). Another was in the War of 1812, but I don't think he saw any action.
