    Montgomery- Norman surname?

Is Montgomery a Norman surname? If so would ancestors with the surname trace back to Scandinavia?

I saw Montgomery, or rather the French version of that name back in the days when I was researching Rollo and his descendants. I don't know whether Montgomery itself is from Denmark or Norway, but he (one of them) married a daughter that was Scandinavian. I suggest poking around at Ancestry.

Toponymic from Normandy, a DNA test would confirm or deny Nordic ancestry.

I am not sure whether a dna test would help in this instance. I am connected to the surname Montgomery via a maternal 4 gt.
I am trying to find ancestral surnames with a possible Scandinavian connection and thought Norman-Viking.

    A French/Normandy origin is likely :

"..ancienne famille d'Angleterre, dont l'orgine remonte a Roger de Montgomery, gentilhomme normand, qui passa en Angleterre a la suite de Guillaume-le-Conquerant...." (from "Encyclopédie du dix-neuvième siècle...").

The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy web site mentions that the wife of Roger de Montgommery was probably of Viking origin.

My 6 X Great Grandmother was Anne Montgomery daughter of Hugh Montgomery of North Cave Yorkshire.

This my explain the Scandinavian link:- In 1736 John Montgomery moved to Sweden and was naturalized as a Swedish nobleman, this line of the family is still in existence today, some notable members include MP's in the Swedish parliament and ministers in the Swedish government. The estate Segersjö is in the family's possession.
