View Full Version : Display of SNP results on FTDNA project pages

One of my pet peeves are projects that do not display SNP results--with the growth of the Y Haplotree, the FTDNA haplogroup designation that is displayed on the YSTR page provides little insight as to what was actually tested.

Whenever you see a project that does not display SNP results, please send e-mail to the group admin requesting that the SNP results be displayed. You can include a link to the below page, which explains why SNP results should be displayed, and how to enable their display using the GAP functionality.

Good advice! Suggest you also post it on FTDNA Forums.

I wish FamilyTreeDNA would get rid of this 'opt in' choice, and make it an 'opt out' choice for project administrators.

I agree. Alot of Admins probably dont even know about it either.

It might be worthwhile emailing Bennett Greenspan about it. If he agrees, he can put it on his IT department's to do list.

Thanks, but does anybody at management level at FTDNA take any notice of that Forum?

The annual FTDNA Conference should allow voting on (say) the 5 most most wanted features, with a commitment to acting on them.

Max and Bennett are very involved, just send them an e-mail outside of that forum, as it is not gleaned by those that matter very often.

BTW: A while ago I emailed the admin of the Denmark Geographical project requesting that he/she switch on SNP display, along with a How-to.

I didn't even get a reply.

Out of the largest 40 surname projects, only the McDonald and Brown projects do not have FTDNA generated reports. The Brown project admin responded that he did not want to turn on (or make public) the URLs involved due to "inconvenience for YSNP researchers". I think if we lobby the largest projects first, it would really help convince the mid sized projects to get on board by stating the largest x projects have these reports activated and URLs published. BTW - there are two ways to find out URLs for FTDNA reports from WFN and custom web site projects: 1) many times you can just put surname in FTDNA URL of another project and it will display 10 or 15 % of the non-FTDNA sites with FTDNA reports; 2) search Google with "surname ftdna project" where surname is the surname of interest. This finds another 5 or 10 % of FTDNA generated web sites - any other ways known ?
